Di Maria Talks Spezia Win and Dishes on His Future

Angel Di Maria sealed Sunday’s tricky game versus Spezia with a great goal from distance, something he hadn’t done in a while despite being in good form. He commented to the press afterward (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).

“I always try to help the team, either starting or coming off the bench. I wanted to score after assisting Adrien Rabiot versus Fiorentina and being involved in the action that led to the goal against Nantes, and I managed.”

“We are a little tired considering the consecutive matches. When you play a lot, holding the ball generally works, but they like to use the counter-attacking game in Italy, and we did okay today. We want to make the wish of our fans come true and advance in Europa League. We deserved a better result in the first leg, and we’ll do the best we can Thursday.”

Di Maria had spoken about his future Saturday to ESPN Argentina (via EuroSport).

“I don’t have preferences about it. I’m happy here. The club has had a few problems lately, and we haven’t discussed an extension. I haven’t talked with them or any other team. I try to focus on playing and proving my worth in each game, and then we’ll see what happens.”

“I heard the recent rumors about Rosario Central and didn’t like them. They are unnecessary right now and give people false hope. I’ll decide on my own when it’ll be the right time for me to return. I want to play in the next Copa America, so it will be key for me to stay in Europe to be called up; otherwise, Lionel Scaloni won’t consider me.”
