Donnarumma Set for Run of Starts, Pochettino Dishes on Mbappé

Gianluigi Donnarumma will have an opportunity to fully take over the starting job at PSG. Keylor Navas left the last Costa Rica game at halftime due to a thigh injury. Coach Mauricio Pochettino weighed in: “He has yet to return, and he will take some tests afterward. We talked to him and he was distraught. We hope the substitution was mostly precautionary.”

Donnarumma got the nod in the last two games before the break, against Manchester City and Rennes. He has appeared in four matches thus far. Since he was unavailable to open the season, he has been the backup on five occasions.

Pochettino also discussed the future of Kylian Mbappé in an interview with Cadena Cope: “He is serene, and I have no doubts about his professionalism. He has the maturity to handle these situations. PSG will make everything possible to keep him. We are talking about one of the best players in the world, and he still has huge potential. The club will work hard to convince him. Personally, I would be happy if he stayed for many more years.”

The star recently admitted that he wanted to leave in the summer. Pochettino commented: “He expressed a wish that dated back to a few months ago. There will be a chance he changes his mind up until his contract runs out. PSG have the hope and the means to seduce him and offer whatever he needs to be happy here. Then it will be up to make a decision.”
