Ex-Italy Coach Prandelli: “Difficult to Argue Inter are Scudetto Favorites”

Former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has no doubt in his mind as to who the Scudetto favorites this season are, as Inter thrashed Milan 5-1 in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season.

In interviews with Tuttosport and La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), the former Fiorentina and Parma manager took stock of Simone Inzaghi’s outfit.

“It is not difficult to argue that Inter are the favorites for the Scudetto,” said Prandelli.

He particularly pointed to Inter’s ability to balance the squad with young and veteran blood, which provides them with the edge.

“Inter have quality, a deep squad with 20 starters. Inzaghi combines the youth of some players – from Davide Frattesi to Marcus Thuram – with the experience of others like Henrikh Mkhitaryan. There is freshness and physical strength. At this moment, Inter are demonstrating that they are aware of their own quality.”

Prandelli pointed out Thuram’s debut as a standout.

“I can’t remember a debutant having such an impact in a Derby. Maybe Wesley Sneijder in the 4-0 in 2009. Although he didn’t score, he was devastating. Every time he burst forward, he did it with two extra gears.”

The Nerazzurri won against the Rossoneri in emphatic fashion via a 5-1 scoreline, beating them for a record fifth time in 2023.
