Veteran Goalkeeper Teases Imminent Inter Comeback

Samir Handanovic has yet to ink the contract that will see him return at Inter in a different role, but he participated in an event hosted by the Nerazzurri’s Curva Nord on Thursday night and implied that his comeback is a fait accompli (via SportMediaset).

“Thank you for the affection, not just today but throughout recent years. You supported and tolerated me. I’m proud to have defended your colors, in some seasons better than in others. I always felt responsible toward the club and the supporters, not only the Ultras but everybody.”

Handanovic dropped a big hint about what will happen in his final remarks.

“I thank you from the heart, and I hope you will continue as you’ve always done. The tide often turns thanks to your contribution during matches. You helped us out several times. I will always carry that with me, and I won’t forget it. Still, I’ll stay with you.”

According to the publication, Handanovic will put pen to paper on his new Inter contract once he officializes his retirement, which hasn’t occurred yet. On the other hand, his future role is still uncertain. The 39-year-old might end up having a more institutional position rather than join Simone Inzaghi’s staff or the management per se, similar to Javier Zanetti.
