Inter Inform Roma About Reaching Verbal Agreement with Mkhitaryan

Henrikh Mkhitaryan could soon swap allegiances in Serie A, as Inter are reportedly on the cusp of having him committed to a two-year contract. As per Fabrizio Romano, the Nerazzurri have informed Roma of establishing official talks with the Armenia captain over a summer move to Giuseppe Meazza.

Mkhitaryan’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico runs out in a month, with Roma yet to convince their star attacker to pledge his future to the club. Despite playing a pivotal role in Jose Mourinho’s title run in the Europa Conference League, the 33-year-old looks to have his heart set on joining Inter.

After suffering an underwhelming four-year stint in the Premier League with Manchester United and Arsenal, Mkhitaryan has enjoyed a renaissance at Roma. He has turned into one of the best-performing forwards in Serie A since signing for the Giallorossi in 2019.

But following a stellar 2020/21 campaign, Mkhitaryan struggled a bit this term, racking up just five goals and assists in 31 Serie A appearances. Yet, his sub-par league performances were overshadowed by his masterclass displays in the Europa Conference League as he inspired Roma to their first trophy in 14 years.

Mkhitaryan’s sublime form has not gone unnoticed. Inter are now keen to lure him away from the nation’s capital. The parties already have a verbal agreement in place, and it’s now up to Roma to improve their offer if they are to keep hold of their headline performer.

Our take on Mkhitaryan’s future

It appears Mkhitaryan finds Inter’s proposal too tempting to resist now that the opportunity has presented itself. Though Roma will likely try to throw a spanner in the works, the Armenian looks closer to moving to Meazza than staying in the capital.

Not even Roma’s historic European success has proved enough to make the player contemplate his initial decision to join Inter. We think the Giallorossi have no other option but to concede defeat.
