Inter Join Milan and Real Madrid to Scout On-Loan Marseille Stopper

Inter are preparing to boost their defensive standing with the potential onboarding of a center-back, who can possibly replace either Stefan De Vrij or Milan Skriniar at the end of the season, that is, if either one of them leaves.

Most of the Nerazzurri’s transfer window has revolved around midfielders and forwards. However, it looks highly likely that Simone Inzaghi’s outfit will go all out for defensive reinforcements in the next window.

According to Calciomercato.it, on-loan Marseille defender William Saliba is the subject of interest to Inter. The stance of his parent club Arsenal is not yet known but it looks like he will be on the market at the end of the season, as his loan contract with Les Olympiens expires in June 2022.

Although he possesses a contract valid until June 2024 with Arsenal, his current valuation of €24m (according to transfermarkt) is bound to attract the sights of not just Inter, but also two other European giants.

Real Madrid and Milan are also keeping close tabs on the 20-year-old St.Etienne youth product. His agent Niang Djibril is in contact with numerous clubs and Inter are one of them, according to the report.

Inzaghi is reportedly interested in a U23 player with a background of international experience. Saliba is the captain of the French U21 national team and has represented his country across virtually all youth levels, making him a perfect match to Inter’s requirements.

Saliba has integrated exceptionally in Jorge Sampaoli’s outfit, registering more than 2,500 minutes in his 29 appearances for Marseille.

Inter have the second best defense in Serie A this season, albeit their impressive standing on top of the league with 53 points after 22 games. They have conceded just 17, one more than second-placed Napoli, who are four points behind, having played a game more.
