Inter Keen on Retaining Acerbi Past Initial Loan Spell

Francesco Acerbi has exceeded expectations since joining Inter, as he has often played over Stefan De Vrij in the back, faring better than his teammate. Despite being shown the door at Lazio, the two sides had to bargain at length before striking a deal on a temporary transfer.

His agent Federico Pastorello weighed in on Rai TV show Calcio Totale (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“The negotiation to bring him to Milan was long and challenging. Luckily, we were able to complete it. It’s a loan with option to buy. The Nerazzurri management told us that they wanted to keep him at certain conditions. We hope we’ll be able to come to terms. Haggling with president Claudio Lotito is always difficult. However, he’s a businessman and I’m convinced we will manage to do so with calm and the right reasons.”

Inter hold a €4M option to sign Acerbi permanently, and they’ll try to lower the fee. Pastorello also updated on De Vrij, who’s mulling the offer to extend his expiring contract.

“Our discussions with the hierarchy have been positive, and they want him to stay. We wouldn’t mind pondering possible proposals from Spain or England. In any case, we will give our answer in February.”

Our Take on Inter and Acerbi

There’ll probably be a new round of silly talks between the two clubs, but it’s a no-brainer for both. It’s not like the sale of a 34-year-old will fetch much anyway, even though he has been predictably much better in a three-man line. The Nerazzurri need certainties with Milan Skriniar and De Vrij both potentially leaving, and the veteran has been that.
