Inter Outcast to be Allowed January Exit

Inter could release an out-of-favor left-back Aleksandar Kolarov in the January transfer window if they land a suitable backup option for Ivan Perisic. Per Italian news outlet L’Interista, the defending Serie A champions could set the Serb free as long as they find an adequate replacement.

Kolarov joined Inter in 2020 following an impressive three-year stint at Roma. Given his versatility, the veteran defender quickly established himself as a useful addition to Antonio Conte’s side, performing as a left-back and part of the Italian’s preferred three-man backline.

However, he has tumbled down the pecking order this term, recording only three Serie A appearances under new boss Simone Inzaghi. The 36-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract at the Giuseppe Meazza and is deemed disposable by the club hierarchy.

Since the Nerazzurri have no intention of handing their outcast a new contract, Kolarov could exit the club already in January. Cagliari and Hellas Verona have both set their sights on the ex-Manchester City star, with the former looking to reinforce their squad this winter to improve their bid to avoid relegation.

Although Inter have nothing against Kolarov’s departure, they’d want to bring in a new left-sided defender first. Several names are in the mix, including Lazio’s second-choice left-back Mohamed Fares. Kolarov’s compatriot Filip Kostic of Eintracht Frankfurt is also a potential candidate to strengthen the left side.

However, given the Serbia international’s household status at the Bundesliga club, Inter may have to wait until next summer to complete his signing.
