Inter Unveil Simone Inzaghi: “We Will Do Everything to Defend the Title”

Simone Inzaghi held his first presser as Inter coach today, providing insight on his ideas. “I am enthusiastic and very motivated. It is surely a great challenge. The front office won me over right away; my staff and I realized quickly that we were joining a top club. The management will follow us closely. We will do everything in our power to defend the Scudetto. Moreover, we want to do better in Champions League and make it past the group stage, differently from previous seasons.”

On the transfer market: “It is a delicate moment for everybody. They informed me beforehand about the departure of Achraf Hakimi. However, the director told me that we would have a strong and competitive roster. We know where to intervene as we are short-handed on the flanks. Our other center-pieces will stay at Inter.”

On the squad: “Romelu Lukaku is a key player and a certainty. I am very sorry for what happened to Christian Eriksen, the healing will take time, but we will wait for him with open arms. We seized the opportunity to sign Hakan Calhanoglu, whom I always liked a lot. He has quality and is strong on set pieces. He will give us many satisfactions.”

On leaving Lazio: “The 22 years together were very intense, but it was time for a change of scenery. I will be forever thankful to Claudio Lotito. My cycle was over, and Inter made a strong pitch.”

On the players: “I have already talked with Stefan De Vrij, whom I coached, while I played with Aleksandar Kolarov and Samir Handanovic. We count on Federico Dimarco and Ivan Perisic. I also esteem Stefano Sensi because he always knows what to do with the ball. We will evaluate everybody. I want my Inter to always be on point.”
