Inzaghi Addresses First Months at Inter, Wary of Juventus

Simone Inzaghi commented on his fast start on the Inter bench: “We are doing well, and we are satisfied, but being top of the league at the midway point is not a title. It is just a start. Defeating Napoli gave us a lot of confidence, but we were already serene before the recent winning streak. I have been aware of the strength of the squad since day one.”

The coach gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan and Napoli did not change a lot, and they are surely contenders. But Atalanta and Juventus belong in the title race too. The Bianconeri dropped many points in the early going, more than we expected. However, they are coming back, and they won in six of the last eight rounds. They are a foe we must pay attention to.”

Inzaghi looked ahead at Inter-Liverpool: “They were worst possible opponents alongside Manchester City. It will be tough but also beautiful. These teams always have an extra something. You think you can measure up with them, and then they punish you. We fared well in both matches against Real Madrid.”

The players have more freedom in his design: “Football is all about occupying spaces nowadays. I let them decide where to go and when to do it. Coaches are not as impactful from the bench with the fans back on the stands. We prepare the game plan, but then it is up to them.”

Inzaghi weighed in on a few Inter linchpins: Marcelo Brozovic must hurry up in signing the extension. He is extraordinary and very comfortable here. I hope Ivan Perisic will do it too, as he has done well in every role I put him in. Hakan Calhanoglu is in his ideal position, and he is our Luis Alberto.”
