Inzaghi Campaigning in Favor of Perisic Staying at Inter

On top of rejoicing for the result against Shakhtar Donetsk, Simone Inzaghi publicly commended Ivan Perisic yesterday: “He is doing extraordinary things. I faced him for four years in a row as an opponent, and he was always a problem. When I joined, I always thought he could be a resource. He is an added value for us. Since he is playing as a wing-back, I have to rest him more, while he would like to feature every time. He has to continue performing like this.”

The coach addressed the rumors about the future of the Croatian international to Sky: “I have a great front office behind me. They know what I think about his extension. He is a great professional.”

Perisic has only a few months left on his contract. The management has yet to open talks with him because he reportedly intends to leave next summer. He has posted 3 goals and 2 assists so far this season. The 32-year-old spent a campaign at Bayern Munich when Antonio Conte took over. He was on the chopping block after returning as well, but he stayed and adapted to the new role.

The Nerazzurri will attempt to re-up his contract anyway, FC Inter News relays. The parties should meet before Christmas. They will offer him a two-year deal, lowering his wages from €4.6M to €3M. The winger is reluctant, but he might not make his decision before the end of the season. He has drawn interest from Roma and three foreign teams.
