Coach Simone Inzaghi previewed the Roma bout in a presser: “It is the most important game of this cycle for us. They have important values, so it will take the real Inter to win. It will be a pleasure to meet the coach that won the treble. It will be a special match for him. His career speaks for himself.”
Inzaghi was asked how Lautaro Martinez could improve: “He has to continue on the trajectory he currently is. He is very young. I am happy about the other strikers too. He has scored in three matches in a row, and I hope he can keep going.”
On the injuries: “Matteo Darmian and Andrea Ranocchia are out. Stefan De Vrij and Aleksandar Kolarov have minimal chances to be available. Alessandro Bastoni is feeling better, but he could not practice yesterday. There are a few dings and bruises after the Spezia game.”
Inzaghi will go against his former derby opponent: “It is always a particular tilt. It will surely be a big-ticket game. I am fully invested in the Inter world, so it is no longer a crosstown rivalry for me. We will need a lot of personality at the Stadio Olimpico.”
The coach assessed the title race: “We closed the gap in the standings thanks to the recent eight wins and two draws. The others will continue to run, so we will take it game by game. I have always been satisfied with our level of performance. We have the most prolific attack right now, but we have been solid in the back. We need to maintain this balance.”
Inzaghi warned his side: “We will face a quality opponent that will be angry for their recent loss. We will need a great showing.”
