Juventus CFO ‘Surprised’ at Decision to Close Curva Sud

Juventus vs Inter last week ended in ugly scenes towards the business end, as the Nerazzurri mustered a significant leveler via Romelu Lukaku in the 95th minute. The big Belgian will however miss the return leg scheduled on April 26th after his penalty goal triggered a contentious celebration, for which he received a red, before which abusive chants rang around from the Curva Sud.

The FIGC Sports Judge recently gave his verdict on the incident, closing the Bianconeri ultras section for one home match – the game against Napoli on April 23rd.

Juventus Chief Financial Officer Francesco Calvo revealed the penalty comes along as surprising in an exclusive talk to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are always very active in campaigns against racism. We were surprised that our help in identifying those responsible wasn’t taken into account. Since Juve-Inter was a Coppa Italia match, it was a non-subscription event. So only 1028 were subscribers that day, out of the 4500 generally present in that sector. A large portion of the fans who will not be able to go to attend the match against Napoli weren’t even at the stadium that day.”

Calvo revealed that the team is accelerating its efforts to catch the perpetrators of the racist incidents that took place.

“The club, in addition to having made the video material collected by the 115 security cameras installed inside the Allianz Stadium available to the police HQ, has identified two of the fans portrayed by some videos that have been making the rounds on social networks.”
