Juventus Could Change Their Mind on Retaining Veteran

Juan Cuadrado has been routinely tipped to leave Juventus at the end of his expiring contract. However, the front office is reportedly considering keeping him for another season. The parties are discussing a new deal. The Colombian would stay put if he accepted lower wages, DAZN reports (via OneFootball).

The Bianconeri recently lost Mattia De Sciglio for months at the position. The fullback suffered an ACL tear and might return only in early 2024. They tracked a few young specialists at the position in previous windows. Though, the rumor mill has been silent on the matter lately.

Juventus offered Cuadrado a seasonal pact with €3.5M wages, including add-ons. He currently earns €5M per year. Roma are keeping tabs on the veteran. They would make an offer if he didn’t accept the proposal from his current team.

The Old Lady did something similar with Alex Sandro previously. While he was expected to depart naturally, he has made enough appearances to trigger a clause to prolong his contract. The team signed off on it, although they have yet to formally announce it. Andrea Cambiaso, who’s loan at Bologna, should replace De Sciglio, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

Our Take on Juventus and Cuadrado

He’s not totally cooked, which might be the case for his Brazilian teammate given his recent gaffes, but this would still be a very un-Cristiano Giuntoli-like move. It also proves Massimiliano Allegri’s grip on the transfer market decisions. At some point, they’ll have to let go of some overpaid and worn-down veterans if they really want to turn over a new leaf.
