Juventus Player Ratings vs Freiburg: Vlahovic and Chiesa Score in Germany

On the back of a 1-0 win in the first leg, Juventus only needed to avoid defeat in Freiburg to book their spot in the Europa Quarter-Finals. Nonetheless, the Bianconeri confirmed their superiority by beating their German foes with two unanswered goals. Dusan Vlahovic broke the deadlock from a spot kick which also resulted in the dismissal of Manuel Gulde. Afterwards, the result was no longer in doubt, which prompted a dull second half. Moreover, Federico Chiesa put the exclamation on the qualification by scoring with a lovely strike in the dying minutes. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who swept past Freiburg en route towards the next stage of the competition.

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 7.5

A superb display from the former Arsenal goalkeeper who pulled off a spectacular save in the first half. He also made a crucial intervention in the midst of a great debacle in the second period.

Federico Gatti – 6.5

The Italian defender remains a bit raw, and it showed when he cleared the ball toward the middle of the box. Nonetheless, he put up a solid display at the back, while his shot promoted the penalty (plus the red card).

Gleison Bremer – 6.5

An unyielding performance from the former Torino man who excelled in his role in the middle of the back-three.

Danilo – 7

Despite playing on his less favorite flank, the Juventus captain did well on the left side, making great interceptions at the back and pushing forward on some occasions.

Juan Cuadrado – 6.5

A good display from the Colombian veteran who played an important role in winning the spot kick.

Nicolò Fagioli – 6.5

The Italian midfielder continues to grow with every new outing, cementing himself as a regular starter in Massimiliano Allegri’s lineup. A truly well-rounded performer.

Manuel Locatelli – 6.5

A solid if unspectacular display from the former Sassuolo man who shielded the backline and helped his team in winning the midfield battle. But he still has to improve his passing in the final third.

Adrien Rabiot – 7

Another impressive outing from the World Cup finalist, rounding off a positive evening with an assist for Chiesa. His contributions can be felt on both ends of the pitch.

Filip Kostic – 6

An energetic display as ever from the Serbian, but his crosses weren’t as accurate as usual.

Moise Kean – 6

A positive outing from the former Everton man, one that only lacked a goal. He came close on two occasions, and linked up well with his Juventus teammates.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6.5

It wasn’t exactly “Vintage Vlahovic”, but the striker at least grabbed the goal that he sought, albeit from a somewhat lucky spot kick. He had also scored an earlier goal which was disallowed by VAR for offside.

Substitutes

Samuel Iling-Junior – 5.5

The young Juventus winger made some runs on the flanks but without producing anything noteworthy. Received a booking for some gamesmanship.

Federico Chiesa – 7

The Euro 2020 hero was largely ineffective before deciding to raise the tempo in added-time. On his first attempt, the goalkeeper combined with the woodwork to deny him, but neither had a chance on his second shot.

Enzo Barrenechea – N/A

Mattia De Sciglio – N/A

Matias Soulé – N/A
