Paulo Dybala’s career is at a crossroads as the Argentine grows increasingly frustrated with his treatment at Juventus. Per Gazzetta dello Sport, the mercurial forward has deemed the club’s new contract offer unsatisfying and could seek a way out already in January.
Dybala has entered the final six months of his contract at the Allianz Stadium. Juventus are keen to tie their standout forward down to a new deal. However, they would like to do it on a reduced wage of approximately £6.2m per year. That doesn’t seem to have gone down well with the 28-year-old.
Whispers about the breakdown between the parties have been making the headlines lately as Juventus grow impatient with Dybala’s recurring injury setbacks. The former Palermo man has become prone to injuries over the past 18 months, which forced the Bianconeri to change the initial terms of a contract agreement.
Per reports, the parties have initially agreed upon annual figures in the region of £8.3m. But Juventus have decided to lower their bid in the wake of Dybala’s latest injury. It is not only the Turin giants who are second-guessing the prospect of extending the contract. It appears as if the player himself is uncertain whether to pledge his future to the Allianz.
Where could Dybala go from here?
Despite his abovementioned fitness struggle, Dybala remains one of the most coveted and highly-rated forwards in Europe’s top-five leagues. Understandably, there are plenty of suitors, but Inter and Liverpool look to be at the front of the queue. The two are lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the reigning Serie A champions have already laid the foundations for signing Dybala on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The Nerazzurri have reportedly established contacts with the player’s entourages to understand the feasibility of the move, with a meeting between Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta and Dybala’s agent Jorge Antun scheduled to take place in February.
Inter have regained domestic supremacy on the back of Juventus’ recent downfall and are now looking to return the favour to bitter rivals for tormenting the league over the past decade. Signing Dybala would inflict a massive blow on the Turin side, helping Simone Inzaghi’s men kill two birds with one stone.
In addition to strengthening their well-knit squad, Inter would also significantly weaken one of the direct rivals for the Serie A crown. But to get the deal over the line, they will likely have to overcome fierce competition in Liverpool.
The Reds are long-term admirers of Dybala and could rekindle their interest now that the Argentine is set to sever ties with Juventus. Jurgen Klopp boasts one of the most fearsome attacking line-ups in European football, but improving his firepower remains firmly in the forefront of the German’s mind.
Liverpool are reportedly assessing the possibility of launching an assault on Dybala, with Juventus more inclined to ship their unsettled star away from Serie A. It’s easy to assume the record-time Italian champions would be reluctant to let the left-footed star join Inter when there’s a possibility to move abroad.
