Lazio Preparing Contract Renewal for Aging Star

Pedro’s adventure in Rome might not end just yet as Lazio hope to tie the veteran forward down to a new deal. According to LazioNews24, Maurizio Sarri’s men line up a two-year contract extension for the 35-year-old star.

At 35, Pedro is well past his prime. Considering his current contract at the Stadio Olimpico runs out at the end of June, many have thought his career in Serie A was nearing its end. However, Lazio won’t give up on the former Barcelona man, even though he’s entered the autumn of his playing career.

Pedro swapped allegiances in the capital in 2021, leaving Roma after only one season to link up with Lazio. Despite joining Sarri’s side in the autumn of his trophy-laden career, the Spaniard has proved a massive asset for the Biancocelesti. Alongside Ciro Immobile and Felipe Anderson, he’s been one of their best-performing attackers.

He amassed 36 Serie A appearances, racking up four goals and six assists en route to helping Lazio secure Champions League qualification for the first time since 2019/20. Therefore, it’s no strange the Italians are keen to keep him on board. It’s understood that the player is equally excited about extending his stay in Rome.

Though Pedro has yet to respond to Lazio’s offer, there’s an overwhelming feeling he’ll be part of Sarri’s set-up next season. The former Napoli manager appreciates the veteran’s tactical flexibility, undeniable quality, and experience. As such, he wouldn’t mind having him at his disposal for two more years, no matter his age.

But while they’re making progress in their bid to renew Pedro’s contract, Lazio could lose another significant first-team member this summer. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as a transfer target for Milan boss Stefano Pioli. With a year remaining on his deal, math is simple for the Biancocelesti.

They can either sell him for a profit in the coming months or run the risk of losing him on a free transfer in a year.
