Lazio Ready to Announce Top Star Contract Extension

After leaving his club hanging for about a month, Luis Alberto has signed a contract extension that will tie him down until 2028. The parties reached an agreement in principle a while back. The Spaniard held out briefly at the beginning of the preseason preparation to protest for the delay but was reeled in. The announcement should come next week, Calciomercato informs.

The mercurial midfielder will make €4M plus bonuses. His previous deal would have run out in 2025. He was on the verge of returning to his home country a few times in the past. In particular, he eyed a move to Sevilla or Cadiz. Instead, some Saudi clubs targeted him this summer. Unlike his former teammate Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, he wasn’t enticed by the destination.

Luis Alberto and Lazio will soon put pen to paper on the extension that will further prolong his stay in the Italian Capital. He came in from Liverpool for €4M in 2016. He has accumulated 265 appearances, scored 47 goals, and provided 69 assists.

The 30-year-old will remain a vital cog of the Biancocelesti’s new-look midfield. With a little delay on the schedule, Matteo Guendouzi arrived in Italy to take the medicals Wednesday.

Considering his standards, it has been a chill summer for him, as the Spanish sirens weren’t loud enough this time out.
