Leao Reiterates Milan Goal: “One UCL is Worth More than €10M”

Rafael Leao believes Milan are on the right route to win the UEFA Champions League, having reached the tournament’s semi-final last season. For the Portuguese, who was also linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, winning the continental tournament is worth more than a bumper salary.

Leao gave an interview in length to GQ Portugal (via Calciomercato) and spoke about his dream of lifting the UCL with the Rossoneri.

“I believe that the club is on the right path. We managed to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Now the club’s objective must be to continue to rise, to continue to be strong. And I am sure that Milan will soon return to winning a Champions League, which is our goal. I speak for myself, I’m young, I’m a player who wants to win big things, I think the Champions League is every player’s dream and we’re working for this.”

Leao says he has way more to achieve in Europe before considering a big Arab money move.

“I have not yet achieved great results to go to a championship like that. Money speaks louder nowadays, but for me a Champions League is worth more than a salary of 10 million.”

He also reminisced about Milan’s two-legged defeat to Inter in the UCL semi-finals last season.

“We had some absences and, due to the lack of solutions on the bench, Inter were clearly superior. They have a very complete team, both in the starting eleven and on the bench, and I believe that this made the difference in the two matches.”

Leao recently penned a new deal with the Rossoneri until the summer of 2028, putting off any links of an exit.

“You can never say never, but I’m in a club that welcomed me very well, I’ve renewed now. I was thinking of leaving, I wouldn’t have done it. I’m focused on doing great things with Milan for two or three more years.”
