Marotta Discloses Juventus-Related Tidbit on Inzaghi Hiring

Inter hired Simone Inzaghi last summer, but he was not their first option, as Giuseppe Marotta revealed: “We reached out to Massimiliano Allegri after Antonio Conte left. He was a free agent, and we did not think our current coach would be open to switching teams. We were not aware he was having dinner with Claudio Lotito when we called him, which created an awkward situation. Our promptness and intuition were key to reaching an agreement quickly while still respecting Lazio. It is fair to leave after many years at the same club.”

Marotta also touched on some Juventus-related topics in his chat with DAZN: “There was nothing true in the rumors about my return. I maintain an excellent relationship with Andrea Agnelli. Paul Pogba was our most satisfying deal. We signed him for free and re-sold him to the same club for €110M. As it pertains to Cristiano Ronaldo, you have to make complete evaluations when you acquire players. It is normal to have different opinions, but it is ludicrous to think that we clashed because of such transfer. The goal I cherish the most is Alexis Sanchez’s one in the Supercoppa. It had never happened to me that scoring led to winning a trophy right away.”

“I have received a lot from football early on, as I started from the bottom. Now it is time for me to give back. I have my dreams, but you can not always reach them. I feel I have done almost everything I could as an executive. My next experience will involve handling sports politics. I want to contribute to making our system grow, especially the football one. I think it is still underappreciated in Italy. But it will not happen in the immediate future,” Marotta concluded.
