Milan Chairman Tries to Pump the Brakes on Early Enthusiasm

Milan president Paolo Scaroni tried to temper expectations following the great win over Lazio: “It was a fantastic match, and we all enjoyed it. However, it would be premature to talk about winning Scudetto. Let’s focus on the Liverpool clash, which will be very important. Our priority is to return to the Champions League. We can not stay out of that competition. We would be delighted to do even better, obviously.”

“The strategy of the Milan ownership, management, and coaching staff is to rely on a young squad. Then Stefano Pioli created a real team that is very alert, aggressive, and fun to see. He gets the credit for the togetherness they always display on the pitch. He was never on the hot seat, as we have always had a long-term project in mind.”

The executive talked to Radio Rai: “The project of the stadium is at a good point. I am optimistic, although the local elections will soon take place. But I think everybody is on the same page. There will be a decisive next step in October. Once it gets approved, it will take two years to fully plan it and build it. I think that a new and modern arena is what Milan are missing to compete internationally, considering that it brings in a lot of money. Super League is a thing of the past. However, Serie A teams have too many debts, and we will need to find some solutions alongside the governing bodies.”

“I am cautiously optimistic about Frank Kessié. He was very committed yesterday, and I hope he stays at Milan for years to come. I do not know what Zlatan Ibrahimovic has in mind, but he would provide a great contribution if he stayed with us.”
