Milan Chief Talks Takeover, Super League and New Arena

Paolo Scaroni chaired the meeting of the Milan board Wednesday, which approved the balance sheets for the 2021/2022 season. It registered a €92.3M loss but improved slightly compared to the previous session, when they were in the red for €97.9M. The exec took stock of the finances and expounded on a few other topics (via SportMediaset).

He hinted that CEO Ivan Gazidis, who had a lengthy interview with ESPN, is on his way out.

“We’ll leave the decision to him. I thank him for what he did for Milan. We have had a rice relationship, and it’s easy to be the president when you can lean on somebody like him.”

The chairman introduced new owner Gerry Cardinale.

“He’ll provide an international contribution that we were lacking. We are hopeful that it will grow our club and our brand. I’m optimistic about this new phase after we repaired our finances in recent years. We have a competent and expert majority shareholder that will act in the best interest of the club.”

Scaroni stated that the Super League was a thing of the past for Milan.

“We shelved that concept, but the problems stay. It’s up to UEFA to find a solution.”

He discussed the project for the new stadium.

“The public debate is ingoing, and the process takes time. It’s going well. It will be closer to the nearby houses that the current one, but it will have a different structure and won’t be as noisy. Some say that it’s too small, but 60k seats suffice. We hope to learn something more definitive by November. We haven’t given up on the alternatives, for instance building it on our own. There are further options too.”
