Milan had to halt the sale and recalibrate the ticket prices for the Champions League matches following a widespread protest by the fans. The club had set the costs of the various sectors from €69 to €390. The supporters erupted on social media platforms. They pointed out that the tickets for the Curva were twice as expensive compared to Inter. Milan will face Atletico Madrid, Porto, and Liverpool in the group stage.
AIMC, a fans’ association, penned a note: “Once the tickets were made available, we shockingly realized their prices. We find them unacceptable despite the comprehensible gap between those for the regulars and for the people who seldomly come to San Siro. We understand the need to make a profit given the lengthy closure and the reduced capacity. Still, we can not remain silent, especially toward a front office that often proved to be considerate on these matters.”
After the loud complaint, Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis wrote a letter on the club’s site. “I want to address some of the concerns that have been raised around the tickets for our long-awaited return to the Champions League. First of all, I want to personally ensure you all that every decision that we take as a management team is made only in the best interest of the Club and of the Rossoneri’s community.”
“I have heard your concerns and can understand that in this case, we are not aligned in how we have set the balance. As such, we have re-evaluated our decision and will make adjustments to the pricing for Champions League matches to a level which we believe to be fair. Ticket sales will be temporarily suspended and reopened in due course with a revised pricing approach.”
