While Milan are trying to complete the acquisition of Mohamed Simakan from Strasbourg, they have identified Fiyako Tomori as a possible alternative in case their chase is unsuccessful, transfer market expert Gianluca di Marzio reported.
The Rossoneri have been after Simakan for weeks, but they are now looking into what kind of injury forced him to sub off at half time the last game versus Lens, as the news about its severity have been mixed at this stage. While the two sides have been negotiating for a while, an agreement on the price tag has yet to be reached.
On the other hand, Tomori has played just once in Premier League so far, featuring a little more in the two domestic cups in England. Coach Frank Lampard recently talked about the 23-year-old center-back, as reported by The Sun: “His situation is open at the moment, there is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else. So that would have to be the solution for him and the club.” Tomori notched 15 appearances in 2019/2020 with the Blues after three loan spells to Brighton, Hull City and Derby County in the Championship in the previous years.
While one defender is coming, Leo Duarte left as expected, joining Istanbul Basaksehir on an 18-month loan with option to buy.
Our view
Milan are working on contingency plans in case they are unable to land their primary target, however it looks like they want to make a permanent addition in that role, so it is uncertain whether they would be willing to add a player on loan as indicated by Chelsea’s boss.
