Milan Open Extension Talks with Coveted Star Defender

After prolonging the contract of Stefano Pioli, Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, and Ismael Bennacer are next in line to get new deals. The Milan front office has begun negotiating with the entourage of the fullback. The parties met in Madrid after the win against Atletico, Tuttomercatoweb reports.

Hernandez has a low salary compared to his level of performance and role within the team. He makes €1.5M per season. The executives offered him a substantial pay bump. They are willing to bring his salary to €3.5M plus bonuses, Calciomercato.com informs. The talks are just in their early stages at this point. His agent Manolo Quillon will counter the proposal in the next few weeks.

Milan are not necessarily in a rush as the contract expires in 2024. However, they want to reward the player for his growth. Moreover, he has drawn outside interest in recent windows, especially from PSG. They suggested adding two more years, pushing the expiration date to 2026. According to the side, there should not be a significant gap with the requests by his representative. The expectation is that they will eventually come to terms.

Hernandez joined Milan in 2019 from Real Madrid in a €21.5M move. He has quickly become one of the most impactful contributors on the roster. He has accumulated 96 appearances, tallying 16 goals and 18 assists. The 24-year-old debuted with France last September after being overlooked for an extended period of time. He has scored once and provided three assists in four appearances with Les Bleus.
