Spalletti: “Osimhen Can Reach the Levels of Weah and Van Basten”

Luciano Spalletti has propelled Napoli to their best ever start in Serie A – taking a possible 32 out of 36 points after the first 12 matchdays. The Partenopei stay unbeaten alongside Milan at the top of the Scudetto rankings and possess the best defence, having conceded only four goals, seven better than second-placed Rossoneri.

However, his side have been equally effective on the attacking front. Led by Nigerian marksman Victor Osimhen, who has scored nine goals in 13 overall appearances, Napoli also find themselves on top of their Europa League group standings.

When attending the ‘Casa Corriere del Campionato’ event in Naples, the former Roma tactician shed light on who he thinks is a striker well capable of being mentioned in the same breath as legends Marco Van Basten and George Weah.

Predicting a bright future for his main man up front, Spalletii said: “He is similar to Weah, probably not as strong technically, but with the same quality. He also reminds me of Van Basten. Osimhen is young and he can reach those levels.” (via Football-Italia)

He also spoke of his side’s brilliant start to the season.

“Everybody expects us to stay at this level, including us. We want to stay at the top, but we can’t guarantee this result. We need consistency and I believe the team has room for improvement. We want to feel well with ourselves and try to win every game. Every game we don’t win is a missed chance. We’ll try to win as many matches as possible. We’ll see if there are stronger teams,” he explained.
