Newly-Promoted Serie A Duo Keep Tabs on Sign Ex-Roma Striker

Two newly-promoted sides are in the race to sign to Borja Mayoral, the Real Madrid youth product who is now currently playing his trade with Getafe in La Liga. Despite having signed a permanent contract valid until the summer of 2027 at the Spanish minnows, he could soon find himself starring at either one of the two Italian outfits.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato), Genoa and Cagliari are pondering to make moves for the former Wolfsburg striker. Mayoral, who looks up to Los Blancos icons Raúl and Karim Benzema, has been an integral part of the Azulones for the past two seasons, but could soon move away from the Spanish capital.

Mayoral spent two seasons in Serie A already, between 2020 and 2022, on loan at Roma. He was deemed redundant by coach Jose Mourinho the campaign before, having been restricted to just 11 Giallorossi appearances in 2021/22, before moving to Getafe on loan.

Both Genoa and Cagliari are in search for a proven striker, and Mayoral fits their bill to star in the frontline. However, no concrete contacts have taken place. It remains to be seen which of the two newly-promoted teams will succeed in signing Mayoral.
