OFFICIAL: Inter Midfielder Stefano Sensi Joins Sampdoria on Loan

Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi has joined Sampdoria on a six-month loan without an option to buy. Per the club’s official website, the injury-prone midfielder will spend the second half of the season trying to get back in shape at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Sensi has failed to land regular first-team football at Inter this season. He has racked up just nine Serie A appearances so far. However, he made his final competitive outing count, scoring an extra-time winner to fire the Nerazzurri past Empoli in Coppa Italia action.

Given the fierce competition for places at Meazza and recurring injury problems, the 26-year-old had no other option but to leave Simone Inzaghi’s men for a temporary move. A switch to Sampdoria could benefit all parties involved.

With Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo encouraging possession game, Sensi should enjoy his time in Genoa. Of course, as long as he avoids injuries. Meanwhile, Sampdoria could reap the rewards from the midfielder’s brilliance as they are bracing for a season-long fight against the drop.

Sensi joined Inter from Sassuolo in the summer of 2019, carrying a reputation as one of the most gifted playmakers in Serie A. Unfortunately, a series of injury setbacks have hampered his progress in Lombardy, seeing him become a bit-part player at Meazza.

In the meantime, Inter signed Robin Gosens from Atalanta on a long-term deal earlier this week. In addition to the German left-back, the reigning Serie A champions have brought highly-rated goalkeeper Andre Onana to replace ageing captain Samir Handanovic.
