PSG Becomes First Team Concretely Linked to Cristiano Ronaldo

PSG have begun to examine whether they can acquire Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in the summer, Le Parisien reported. The Portuguese ace has a year left in his deal with the Bianconeri and a very cumbersome salary that may no longer be sustainable in the post-pandemic scenario. Moreover, the early elimination at the hands of Porto caused a loss between €18 and €50M, depending on how far they would have gone in Champions League.

According to the French outlet, owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the super-agent Jorge Mendes already discussed the transfer back in 2015, when the club was looking for a charismatic heir to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left the following season. The two are still in touch.

However, the situation is in flux and will mostly will depend on what will happen with Kylian Mbappé. The management wants to reach agreement on long-term contract, while the starlet asked for the same wages as Neymar. Should he end up leaving, the front office would try to in a high-profile replacement and would target either Lionel Messi, who will be a free agent in the summer, or Ronaldo.

John Elkann, the president of Exor, which is the holding that controls Juventus, weighed in on the state of the team: “We have been very lucky as a generation because our streak of nine titles in a row bested the five consecutive ones with my grandfather at the helm. It is an extraordinary achievement. We are rejuvenating the squad, we must rely on the youngsters and this leads to some inevitable adjustments.”
