PSG Coach Galtier Calls Juventus ‘Monument of European Football’

Paris Saint-Germain have been pitted in the same Champions League group as Juventus, Benfica, and Maccabi Haifa, and coach Christophe Galtier believes they have tough proceedings ahead of them.

Speaking to the press (via Tuttomercatoweb) after the draw, Galtier called both Juventus and Benfica ‘two monuments of European football.’

“We have two former winners of the competition, with Juventus recently arriving in the final (2016/17). They are two monuments of European football, and two teams that the club has already met in the past.”

Juventus and PSG have met in eight previous competitive matches, with the Old Lady emerging victorious on six occasions. The other two matches have ended in draws. They incidentally have never encountered one another since the inception of the UEFA Champions League.

The last time they went head-to-head in a clash was in the final of the 1997 UEFA Super Cup – over two legs – as the Bianconeri came out winners 9-2 on aggregate.
