PSG Initiated Talks with Inter over Milan Skriniar

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly reignited their interest in sought-after Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar. As reported by reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, the freshly-crowned Ligue 1 champinos have established contacts with the Nerazzurri over the defender’s summer move to France.

Skriniar has been one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A over the past few years. Since swapping Sampdoria for Giuseppe Meazza in 2018, the Slovakia international has established himself as a permanent first-team fixture at Inter.

Skriniar was part of Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-winning squad in 2020/21, forming a formidable defensive trident with Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij. He continued to impress under Simone Inzaghi’s stewardship last season, racking up 35 appearances in Serie A.

However, with just more than a year remaining on his current contract at Meazza, Skriniar could be counting his last days in Serie A. Despite the club’s desire to retain their coveted defender, the 27-year-old could fall victim to Inter’s desperate need for cash.

Paris are among the rare European sides to have avoided a knock-on effect of the coronavirus pandemic. They would encounter no problems meeting the player’s price tag whatsoever. Yet, Inter are hell-bent on pocketing around €50-60m.

Despite PSG’s enormous economic power, Les Parisiens are hesitant to meet the Italians’ demands. Meanwhile, Inter are reluctant to budge on their valuation of Skriniar as they need to raise funds to finance their ongoing pursuit of Torino’s Gleison Bremer.

The Brazilian star remains the club’s top priority for the upcoming transfer window. Yet, with their finances crippled by the coronavirus pandemic, Inter will have to sell before launching a decisive bid to sign Bremer.

It could hand PSG’s hopes of landing Skriniar a much-needed leg-up.
