Roma Icon De Rossi Among Frontrunners for Palermo Job

Roma icon Daniele De Rossi is edging closer to securing a managerial position with Serie B outfit Palermo. Despite not possessing his UEFA Pro License at the time, he was linked to several teams in the past, including Fiorentina and Cagliari. The former Giallorossi captain recently completed his coaching license and is among the top candidates for the Rosanero job.

As per Alfredo Pedulla, the Italy legend was seen in Manchester at Manchester City’s sports center with former Roma teammate Aleksander Kolarov, who also once starred for the Cityzens. He met with Pep Guardiola for dinner in an informal setup.

Moreover, it is reported by Il Tempo (via OneFootball) that Alessandro Lucci, the agent of De Rossi, was recently in Manchester to discuss the opening at Palermo with representatives of City Football Group. Given the cordial relations between the two parties, a deal might be on the horizon.

Luca d’Angelo, Eugenio Corini, Roberto D’Aversa, Claudio Ranieri, Aurelio Andreazzoli, Davide Ballardini and Francesco Farioli are some of the other candidates for the job.

Palermo recently experienced a change in ownership after being undertaken by the football conglomerate – thus becoming the first Italian club to be acquired and the 12th outfit in the CFG portfolio. Promotion heroes Silvio Baldini and Renzo Castagini stepped down due to divergences with the new owners.

The enigmatic defensive midfielder retired from professional football in January 2020 while on a one-year contract with Boca Juniors in Argentina. He has since expressed his desire to become a manager, and got his first opportunity as Roberto Mancini’s assistant coach in the Italian national team which won the coveted Euro 2020 title.
