Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Arsenal have displayed an interest in Roma standout striker Tammy Abraham. But according to Calciomercato, Jose Mourinho is determined to fend off foreign suitors.
The Portuguese manager sees the ex-Chelsea star as an indispensable first-team member. Abraham has gone from strength to strength since moving to the Stadio Olimpico in 2021.
In his debut season in Serie A, he tallied 17 goals and four assists from 37 league appearances. Overall, Abraham amassed 26 goals in 52 outings last term, helping Roma win their first-ever European trophy.
Despite failing to score in his side’s Europa Conference league triumph over Feyenoord, the Englishman played a significant role in Roma’s maiden continental success. His sublime form in Rome has not gone unnoticed.
Man United and Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on the Roma marksman.
Indeed, the Red Devils are in the market for a new out-and-out striker to replace Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan will sever ties with the Old Trafford outfit once his contract runs out later in June.
In the meantime, Arsenal are on the verge of parting with long-serving stalwart Alexandre Lacazette. After failing to earn a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, the Frenchman is on his way to re-signing for his boyhood club Lyon.
Since both Premier League sides face the prospect of falling short of reliable attacking options next season, Abraham has emerged as a potential solution.
Unfortunately for the English powerhouses, Mourinho is hell-bent on retaining Abraham. In fact, the Special One plans an aggressive recruitment campaign to bolster his side’s chances of mounting a genuine top-four Serie A bid next term.
And Abraham is central to Mourinho’s hopes of turning Roma into a force to be reckoned with. As recently revealed by the player himself, he and Mourinho share a special bond.
