Sarri Avoids Suspension Despite Distasteful Incident

While multiple coaches have been suspended for the seventh matchday for their antics over the past weekend, Maurizio Sarri got away almost scot-free. The sports judge gave him just a slap on the wrist after he openly flipped the bird towards the opposing bench during the Verona game.

The gaffer received just a yellow card for a disrespectful gesture towards an adversary. It was later revealed to be Scaligeri’s sporting director Francesco Marroccu. The Lazio boss lightened his position by personally apologizing.

A few hours earlier, Sarri had plea-bargained a €4k fine for his remarks against referees following the Napoli clash, Corriere della Sera reports. He had raised questions about the impartiality of the officials.

“I don’t think there’s much to comment. After we protested in Bologna, they have had a bias against us. He booked all our players even though the game was correct. We faced a strong team that could have won in different fashion, but this leaves us bitter. I think the figureheads have to intervene.”

As La Repubblica underlines, Lazio is one of the clubs that has received the most yellow cards, 17, despite not fouling a lot. Five of them were handed for protesting too much. While the team admitted some had reason, they clamored for more uniformity. They believe too many episodes have gone against them so far and even issued an official statement on their website to complain.
