Lazio Reportedly Agree to New Contract with Coach Sarri

After some tumultuous months, Lazio and Maurizio Sarri have come to terms to stick together for a few more seasons. The coach will add two more years to his current contract, which will run until 2025. The parties had been discussing it since last November. However, major disagreements over the January window had created friction.

A relatively strong finish, as the Biancocelesti qualified for Europa League, and further meetings smoothed things over, Corriere dello Sport relays. Moreover, there are not a lot of appealing openings across Europe. The gaffer will have his salary slightly bumped up to €3.5M per year. There will be no release clauses differently from the previous deal. It featured an option that allowed the manager to move abroad if a team activated it.

Sarri hinted that he would stay at Lazio after the season finale against Verona.

“We are one of the few clubs that belongs to a family and not to a fund. This is great in my mind. We can do a nice job here because the ambiance is nice and the group became very tight in the last few months.”

The coach also received reassurances on the transfer market, where they will have to bring in multiple pieces.

Our Take on Sarri Staying at Lazio

Despite some ups-and-downs, the marriage mostly worked, and the duo fits well. Sarri might have a tough time getting another top job after what happened at Chelsea and Juventus, and Lazio are unlikely to do better in terms of coaches.
