Luciano Spalletti and Paolo Maldini were spotted bickering in the tunnel at the end of the first half of Sunday’s clash. The gaffer was talking with the referee and reprimanding Rafael Leao for his celebration, and the director intervened.
According to La Repubblica, the exec stated.
“Coach, you are nervous, but you have already won the league. What [expletive] do you want?”
The manager explained the minor incident to DAZN.
“Nothing happened. I was returning to the locker room and questioned the referee about Stanislav Lobotka’s yellow card. Maldini passed by and told me I complained too much. It’s not the case. If anything, Stefano Pioli did since he received a warning. I didn’t like the fact that he talked over him. I told him that I wouldn’t do that, so he reacted a little. On top of clarifying what happened with Maldini, Spalletti dished on the stunning loss.
“I think we were affected by the post-break tiredness. Many of our players care deeply about their national teams and give their whole to them. They traveled a lot too. Milan had a great game, and we didn’t perform up to our usual standards. Victor Osimhen and Mathias Olivera returned with some injuries. We were a bit unlucky this time. The Rossoneri exploited all their chances. We got too long on the pitch, and they took advantage.”
