Tanguy Ndombele Waves Goodbye to Napoli

Tanguy Ndombele’s adventure at Napoli was short-lived but successful as the Frenchman returns to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur after a season-long loan in Serie A. While his performances flattered to deceive, the 26-year-old couldn’t have picked a better moment to join the Partenopei.

Ndombele’s loan move coincided with Napoli’s first Scudetto since 1990. He might haven’t played a significant role in the Southerns’ long-overdue success. But he’ll still take a gold medal on his trip back to Tottenham. And while Napoli steamrolled to only their third Serie A title, Spurs failed to secure European football, finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Despite making 31 league appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s team, Ndombele couldn’t earn a permanent contract at the Diego Maradona Stadium. Instead, he’s heading back to London to discuss his future with new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.

Regardless, he’ll always hold fond memories of his time at Napoli. Maybe even that’s an understatement. Being part of the Partenopei squad handed Ndombele his first-ever senior trophy. In addition to winning the title, the ex-Lyon midfielder enjoyed the privilege of being loved and cherished by the famous Naples crowd.

And he couldn’t leave without greeting the club and the city. He took to his Instagram profile to bid farewell to Napoli supporters.

The end of my journey that will have only lasted a year but a year that will forever be embedded in my heart. Wish you all the success you deserve. Thank you for everything,” Ndombele wrote.

One city, one people, Naples. The end of my adventure that only lasted a year but a year that will forever be engraved in my heart. Wishing you all the success you deserve. Thank you for everything.
