Tottenham Interested in Insigne as Talks with Napoli Lag

The negotiation between Lorenzo Insigne and Napoli is not progressing. The contract of the attacker expires at the end of the season. He could technically commit to a new team in just a couple of weeks. While his departure is more likely in June than in January, a solid bid from a foreign side might make accelerate things.

According to La Repubblica, Tottenham have begun eyeing Insigne. Antonio Conte coached while he was leading the Azzurri. The destination could also satisfy Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who does not want his star to join another Italian club. However, the Spurs are unlikely to offer much given the situation.

His agent Vincenzo Pisacane again addressed the matter in an interview with Corriere dello Sport: “The story between Napoli and Insigne will not end even if he leaves. There is too much love between them. But we can not wait until June. I am not giving an ultimatum to the Partenopei, but we need to find a solution when the January window opens. Everything will change at that point and we will start talking to other clubs.”

The forward has been strongly linked to Toronto, but his representative downplayed it: “I have never been there. Still, it would be hard to transfer to another Italian club after so many years with the Azzurri. A move abroad would hurt less, as Alessandro Del Piero did. Insigne and Napoli are very distant at the moment. Everybody is still fluid, though. Otherwise, we will have to come to grips with his farewell.”
