Zaniolo on Upcoming Derby: “We Know How Much It Is Worth to Us”

With the Derby della Capitale shortly underway, Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo touched upon the important fixture in an interview.

As it stands within the league, the Giallorossi sit in fourth place with a total of 25 points, only one point separating them from their cross-city rivals who trail behind. Sealing all three points will be crucial for both capital clubs within the race for a Champions League qualifying-spot.

Within last night’s 3-1 victory over Bulgarian outfits Ludogrets in order to secure their ticket to the Round of 16 of the Europa League, the 23 year-old played a pivotal role as he scored a mesmerizing solo-run goal, weaving around his markers and doubling his side’s advantage within the dying minutes of the match.

Despite a difficult start to this year’s campaign, the Italian international seems to be finding his groove as he scored two decisive goals within two consecutive fixtures across all competitions.

While speaking with Dazn, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, Zaniolo provided his inisght on his performance against Ludogrets and his thoughts on the upcoming derby:

“A great feeling that was needed by me, the team and the environment. We played a great game and won the next round even if in a dirty way. For me, scoring has never been a problem because if you arrive many times in front of the goalkeeper and make mistakes it’s just a problem of accuracy, now I scored against Verona and tonight, these are moments that we all live. The goal? At that moment there were two options, either I was lobing or under the legs. I preferred the latter because it was safer. Derby? We know how much it is worth to us, the people and the championship. If today we have 120% against Lazio we will put 200%. ”
