Zhang Silences Sale Buzz, Presses for Skriniar Renewal

Inter president Steven Zhang gave a rare interview after Inter punched their ticket to the knock-out stage of the Champions League, addressing the rumors about the ownership situation and weighing in on Milan Skriniar to Sky.

“The club is not for sale and I’m not talking with any potential investor. In the last few months, or really years, the team has been subject to speculations. We are focusing on ourselves.”

The chairman commented on the recent positive results.

“It means that the players and the coach are working hard. The management has done its best. Simone Inzaghi is a top manager, he’s resilient and capable of overcoming difficulties. This group was very challenging, and we have seen everybody’s qualities. This result is the proof of what we are doing. Nobody would have imagined years ago. We all wish what’s best for Inter, like the fans. The qualification shows that our choices were correct. We have improved every day and we don’t settle. We have demonstrated to be a winning team. I dedicate this victory to the faithful and all those that support us and work along with me.”

Zhang concluded by dishing on Skriniar’s pending renewal.

“We try to strengthen the squad to make it more competitive each summer. I think he’s an incredible player. He knows how much it matters to me for him to stay here.”

CEO Giuseppe Marotta discussed the same topic before the match.

“The extension doesn’t hinge on what we do in Champions League. He surely deserves it, and we hope he can become a reference point for the future Inter. Then, it takes two to make these decisions. But I’m optimistic we will reach agreement as soon as possible.”
