Juventus Reignite Interest in Old Attacking Target

Juventus have reportedly rekindled their interest in Sassuolo talisman Domenico Berardi toward the end of the transfer window. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the winger is again an intriguing option for the Allianz Stadium outfit.

In spite of talks linking Juventus with a late summer swoop for Manchester United misfit Jadon Sancho, this doesn’t look like a realistic option for the Bianconeri. In addition to the Englishman’s whopping wages at Old Trafford, there’s a feeling the Red Devils wouldn’t sanction another loan.

The only way for Sancho to team up with Thiago Motta’s side is for United to let him join Juventus on a season-long loan with an option to buy. Since that’s a far-fetched scenario, the Turin giants’ interest in Berardi comes as no big surprise. On the contrary, it makes perfect sense.

With Sassuolo demoted to Serie B, there’s not much they can do to talk Berardi off leaving the Mapei Stadium after 11 years. Although the 30-year-old is still in the treatment room with an injury, Juventus could land him on loan. It would be a win-win deal.

Juventus would strengthen their attacking ranks, while Sassuolo can offload the Itailan’s hefty wages now that they’re out of the top flight. On top of that, the record-time Serie A champions would save money to complete their long-standing pursuit of Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners.

Then, there’s the emergence of Samuel Mbangula. The prodigious forward impressed on his league debut against newly-promoted Como, breaking the deadlock in a commanding 3-0 win. As such, Juventus are no longer open to letting him go on loan.

It means they’re unlikely to make substantial investments in the final third.
