Serie A Udinese strugglers have pulled off the signing of their former forward and ex-Inter star Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 35-year-old is on the verge of returning to the Bluenergy Stadium after 13 years.
Sanchez made a name for himself at Udinese between 2006 and 2011. The Friulians were his first European club after leaving his homeland, and it was a massive hit. After several sterling seasons in Udine, the versatile forward sealed a big-money move to Barcelona in 2011
He has since become one of the world’s best wingers. During his memorable four-year stint at Arsenal between 2014 and 2018, Sanchez established himself as the deadliest forward in the Premier League. Unfortunately, the new Udinese star failed to settle at Manchester United.
After a torrid short-term spell at Old Trafford, Sanchez returned to Serie A in 2019 and won the Scudetto with Inter in his first season at Giuseppe Meazza. He replicated the same feat last term, helping the Nerazzurri lift their 20th league title. However, he failed to earn a new contract at Meazza, resulting in his return to Udinese after over a decade.
Despite returning to the club in the autumn of his career, Sanchez could be a valuable addition to Kosta Runjaic’s side. Udinese barely kept hold of their top-flight status last season. Widely expected to engage in another season-long battle in the lower reaches, they would use a player of Sanchez’s quality.
