Bologna Winger Explains Why He Snubbed Fiorentina

Riccardo Orsolini has enjoyed a prolific start at Bologna. The winger could have left in previous windows but extended his contract last summer. He addressed the links to Fiorentina in an interview with Corriere dello Sport (via Fantacalcio).

“My agent told me about this possibility and their interest a couple of years ago already. I’ve always stated, with all due respect, that I wanted to stay here. I’ve been with this team for many years, and it wouldn’t be a step forward in my mind.”

Orsolini and the Felsinei will take on the Viola next.

“We want to extend our positive streak. It’ll surely be an important match. It will make us understand where we can arrive. They are an excellent, strong, and well-coached team. They have played in the European Conference League for two years in a row and don’t need any introduction. I think it’ll be a nice fixture.”

Orsolini has his sights set on a spot in the Italy squad for Euro 2024.

“The road to make it there goes through what I do with my club. If I suck here, they won’t call me up. It was thrilling to return after two years. It was almost a second debut. Luciano Spalletti is a professor and talks to everybody. I understood why Napoli won the Scudetto. He’s a phenomenon in my mind. There’s surely a lot of competition, but I must not fear it. We aren’t at risk, as we just need four points.”
