Calhanoglu: “Derbies Are Unfortunately Tougher for Me”

Hakan Calhanoglu once donned the red and black of Milan, but he is now a fan favorite among the Nerazzurri faithful, partly responsible for eliminating his former club, having bossed their midfield over two legs as Inter cruised to a 3-0 aggregate win.

Following the victory, Calhanoglu congratulated the Rossoneri for their efforts  – in a talk with SportMediaset

“Congratulations to Milan: they too did a good job. It was a difficult match. We did a good job. I’m very happy”

Calhanoglu has certainly made an impact at Inter since moving on a free transfer in 2021. However, he said that he still respected Milan and was grateful for the time he spent there, despite not being accepted by the Milan faithful for the way he left the club.

“Derbies are always tough, and unfortunately for me even more. But the past is the past. I get along with all my former teammates. I have nothing but respect for Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara. That’s the most important thing. The latter lives near my house. and we always see each other.”

For a man of two clubs, Calhanoglu has the black-and-blue heart, as he continues to etch a legacy at Inter with a potentially historic fourth UEFA Champions League title on the way.
