Matteo Darmian is optimistic about the 2021-2022 campaign notwithstanding the major departures endured by Inter this summer. “We wanted to have a fast start despite the multiple changes. We had established a strong mentality last season, and I think it stuck, as it transpired in the first two matches. Simone Inzaghi brought his ideas and continued on the same path of Antonio Conte, which started two years ago. We made ourselves available and tried to understand what he wanted from us right away.”
He gave an interview to Sky Sport, where he was asked if Inter remained the favorites: “As always, the pitch to give the final response. We just have to focus on working and winning games without listening to the noise coming from outside, whether it is criticism or praise.”
The fullback discussed the new additions: “Despite who left, Inter brought in equally strong players. They will help up a lot with their quality. Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku are different, but they are both great strikers. Hakan Calhanoglu and Cristian Eriksen are akin, although the former likes to finalize the action more. He will be instrumental as well.”
The Danish midfielder recently met his Inter teammates as he is spending time in Milan: “It is nice to be able to talk about him optimistically. We all want to see him get back on the pitch. He conveyed a lot of positive energy when he visited us. We tried to do the same. We are waiting for him.”
