Ex-Watford Chief Scout Vouches for Atalanta-Linked Lookman

Atalanta are looking to add attacking reinforcements to their squad, and former Leicester City loanee Ademola Lookman is one of their transfer targets ahead of the new season. Under contract with Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig until June 2024, the Nigerian winger is a player that fits Gian Piero Gasperini’s requirements in attack.

La Dea have already approached the east German club inquiring about the 24-year-old’s availability.

Ex-Watford sporting director Filippo Grimaldi has backed the Bergamo outfit in their pursuit of Lookman, reflecting on his knowledge of the player’s abilities since his early days at Charlton Athletic, where he graduated from (via TuttoAtalanta).

“I’ve seen him since he was at a kid at Charlton. He is a typical English winger, reactive, very ‘annoying,’ but he must find the right connection with the team. He has a one-on-one ability that can make a difference in Italy, even if he hasn’t shown himself to be an absolute crack just yet.”

Grimaldi, also a former Watford scout, compared him to previous Atalanta signing Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo, suggesting that Lookman would further develop under Gasperini’s style of play.

“He is less of a dribble addict and more vertical: he sprints more, he accelerates. He must find the continuity that he has not had so far. Maybe he can make the leap in quality with Gasperini.”

The 24-year-old scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in 42 games for the Foxes last season.
