Fiorentina are going in the wrong direction following a strong start, but the team isn’t thinking about firing Vincenzo Italiano at this stage despite some reports and links to outside coaches. President Rocco Commisso defended the gaffer on the club’s official channels (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“I’m not happy with the recent results, but it’s still one of the best seasons since I’m here. We have 34 points after 22 matches. We had done better only in 2021/2021 with 35. There have already been similar moments in the past. We bounced back collectively. I thanked everybody for the job they have done so far but also reminded them of their responsibilities.”
“Italiano has our complete trust. He has done extraordinary work these last few years, contributing to our results. I find embarrassing those who make up stuff about a poor relationship between us and the coach. They do it to drive a wedge. I didn’t like also the criticism of Cristiano Biraghi. He gives 100 percent every time. The Fiorentina fans should stay close to the team. It’s easy to point fingers and call the squad weak in these moments. The supporters know how to tell the truth apart from the lies.”
On top of shielding Italiano, Commisso examined the Fiorentina moves in January.
“I’m very happy with Marco Davide Faraoni and Andrea Belotti: two important players who were captains in their previous teams. I’ve been following the latter for years. I smile when I read that I don’t spend enough. I’ve invested more than €400M.”
