Fiorentina Step Away from Signing Juventus Misfit on Loan

Negotiations between Juventus and Fiorentina over Arthur Melo’s loan move to Artemio Franchi are reportedly in ‘advanced stages.’ Fabrizio Romano states the parties are inches away from a definite agreement for the 26-year-old to spend next season in Tuscany.

It’s only a matter of time before Arthur completes his temporary move to Florence. Fiorentina will have an option to buy him at the end of next season. But the player’s significant salary has forced Juventus to accept paying a portion of his wages during his loan stay at Franchi.

Arthur may go down as one of the worst signings in Juventus’ history. The record-time Serie A champions paid Barcelona an eye-watering €72 million to capture his services in 2020. But the move has gone wrong as the deep-lying midfielder never found his feet at the Allianz Stadium.

Desperate to get his career back on track, the Brazilian joined Liverpool on a season-long loan last summer. However, after failing to register a single Premier League appearance in 2022/23, his return to Serie A couldn’t have come soon enough for the Reds.

Fiorentina will try to do what Jurgen Klopp couldn’t. They’re willing to offer Arthur an escape route from Turin and a chance to be a first-team regular. That probably means Vincenzo Italiano’s side will soon part with in-demand Sofyan Amrabat.

Despite catching Barcelona’s attention, the Moroccan may continue his career at Manchester United. Fiorentina reportedly expect the Red Devils to send a written proposal for the coveted midfielder in the upcoming period.
