Gatti Shining with Italy Might Impact Juventus Plans

Federico Gatti had a scintillating Azzurri debut versus England, which could easily alter his short-term future and the Juventus strategies. The former Frosinone center-back had no jitters and held Tammy Abraham and Harry Kane in check.

According to La Repubblica, the 23-year-old will have the chance to be the third option behind Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs De Ligt next season. The Old Lady might forgo signing another established option despite the departure of Giorgio Chiellini. The veteran finalized his move to Los Angeles FC today.

Juventus spent €5.5M plus add-ons for Gatti in January. They swooped in late once he had already packed up his things to join Torino. He flew to the same city but completed the campaign on loan to the Ciociari. His rise has been meteoric considering he was playing in the amateurs as late as 2019.

The Bianconeri have examined a few options to bolster the rearguard. But they are all pretty expensive and have not zeroed in on one. They are also waiting to see whether Atalanta will buy out Merih Demiral; otherwise, he could stay.

Massimiliano Allegri would like to add a lefty, with Fiorentina’s Igor and Clement Lenglet as possible targets, while Gabriel and Aymeric Laporte are too pricey. The coach will use the pre-season, especially the friendlies against Barcelona and Real Madrid, to take a close look at the newcomer.

Our Take on Gatti and Juventus

The youngster has had a weird career, but he was by far the best specialist in Serie B last season. He definitely deserves a shot, and he meshes well his teammates in terms of skill-set. The Bianconeri would be better off offloading Daniele Rugani and replacing him with a better player if they had hesitancy about their talent at the position.
