Getafe Quickly Rebuff Napoli Interest in Touted Left-Back

Napoli opened talks to sign Mathias Oliveira, but Getafe do not want to part ways with him in January. The Partenopei have been looking for a new left-back for multiple windows. Although, Faouzi Ghoulam held his own in the past two games when the other options were unavailable.

Getafe president Angel Torres addressed the rumor to the site Calcio Napoli 24: “We will not sell any of our starters in January, then we will see what happens in the summer. I talked with multiple clubs, but this is our stance.”

The Azzurri chased after Reinildo Mandava for the role in previous weeks. However, they can not sign another extra-EU player this season after bringing in Axel Tuanzebe. The Lille specialist remains on their radar for a potential Bosman move given his contractual situation.

Olivera is Uruguayan but also possesses the Spanish citizenship. He joined Getafe from Nacional in 2017. He has been a regular since the 2018-2019 season after a loan spell at Albacete. The 24-year-old has amassed 96 appearances with Los Azulones, hitting the net twice and providing 4 assists.

According to Sky Sport, Napoli had requested him on loan with option to buy before Getafe stonewalled them. It remains to be seen whether they will move onto other targets or if they will stand pat. They are among the sides pursuing Empoli’s Fabiano Parisi. Their other two options in the role, Mario Rui and Kevin Malcuit, just cleared the COVID-19 protocols and will be available versus Bologna.
